Massage during pregnancy is naturally pleasant. It consist of a tender and relaxing massage which is by no means therapeutical.
The benefits :
- Frees muscular tensions
- Calms the nervous system
- Diminishes stress hormones in the body
- Diminishes fear of labour
- Helps body detoxification through the lymphatic system (oedema prevention)
- Increases blood circulation
- Relaxes joints
Due to the numerous physical and hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy, massage isn’t recommended during the first trimester : It’s the period during which the
fetus stabilises itself and rather a moment for the future mum to get used to the idea of being pregnant and enjoy it.
The second and third trimester are wonderful periods for starting prenatal massages. This type of massage can also be done in the first 6 weeks after labour.
Here are the situations in which the massage should not be done :
- Important loss (water/blood)
- Contagious disease
- Non-habitual pain
- Pre-eclampsia (arterial hypertension, proteinuria, weight gain, oedemas)
- Morning nausea
- Abdominal pain
- All disease state
The mother is massaged with biological oils (sunflower, almond, coconut, sesame) in a warm environment in Echenevex with a relaxing musical background.
